ASA Spotlight: Jenny Grim

ASA Co-Coordinator for Baltimore County

WINGMAN SPOTLIGHT

Join us each month as we interview and feature members of the ASA Community! This month, we’re shining the spotlight on ASA’s NEW Co-Coordinator for Baltimore County, Jenny Grim!

1. Tell us more about yourself. What would you like readers to know?

I have been a part of ASA for about 10 years. I live in Timonium with my husband and son. I teach middle school science at Cockeysville Middle. I can’t run fast but I can run far!

2. What drew you to ASA? When did you start?

I had gotten back into running and saw ASA at the Charles Street 12 miler. When I got home I googled them and saw they trained on the NCR trail. I felt like I had met my individual running goals and was ready to do something different. The next spring I joined ASA and have been training and racing ever since. My first race was the Baltimore 10-Miler in 2014 as part of Team James.

3. What do you love most about ASA?

I love the ASA community. It’s really has given me a reason to continuing running. I really believe “If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together.” I haven’t been fast since my high school days! But running with ASA is so much more fun than running alone! I don’t think I would run as much as I do without ASA.

4. Tell us more about the people you've connected with through ASA.

I have met so many amazing people because of ASA- Athletes, their families, and other Wingmen. I even got to train with one of my students, Nolan Ramsey when he was in 8th grade. I have gotten to participate in Iron Girl, Eagleman, a Muderella mud run, Ft. Ritchie Swimfest, and countless races with ASA. I love that I have watched little kids like Braxton and Jake grow up!

5. What is your favorite part of a group run?

Training runs are the best. This is where you really get to know the Athletes and their families and the other Wingmen.

6. What is your favorite part of race day?

My favorite part of race day is seeing the joy parents experience while watching their kids race. I also love it when other runners cheer for our Athletes on the course.

7. What is your best ASA story to date?

I have a few favorite memories- the Bay Bridge Run is probably my favorite race of the year. There is something magical about ASA leading the runners across the bridge. It’s worth the early wake up call and the cold temps. We ran a relay race around Herring Run Park a few years ago in a monsoon- we asked Kevin if he wanted to stop and he said to keep going. Terrence wore his swim shoes so he was prepared! My all time favorite story isn’t even mine- ask James or Dave about the night before Ironman Boulder!

8. What are you most looking forward to as the new Co-Coordinator of Baltimore County?

As Baltimore County Co-Coordinator I’m looking forward to getting to know the Athletes and their families even more. I’m hoping to grow our crew of  Wingmen and make training runs the highlight of everyone’s week.
