ASA SPOTLIGHT
Join us each month as we interview and feature members of the ASA Community! This month, we’re shining the spotlight on Captain and Brand Ambassador, Scott Walton.
1. Tell us more about yourself. What would you like readers to know?
While I take pride in being a teacher and coach, my most cherished role is being the father of two amazing daughters, Olivia and Harper.
2. What drew you to ASA? When did you start?
I’ve always been intrigued by ASA, but hadn’t gotten around to signing up. After years of hearing me talk about it, my daughters decided to take the initiative. While I was participating in the Charm City Sole of the City 10K, they went to the ASA booth and signed me up! I’m incredibly grateful for their enthusiasm.
3. What do you love most about ASA?
It’s truly difficult to pinpoint a single aspect of ASA that I enjoy the most. The camaraderie with the ASA athletes, captains, wingmen, volunteers, and the supportive community – it all creates a truly special atmosphere. Everywhere you look, there are smiles and laughter.
4. Tell us more about the people you've connected with through ASA.
ASA has fostered a wonderful network of connections. At every practice and race, I’m surrounded by familiar faces and new friends, all whom have the biggest hearts.
5. What is your favorite part of a group run?
The diverse personalities within ASA contribute a unique energy to the group runs. Everyone brings something different to the table, and it’s fantastic that we all celebrate finishing together.
6. What is your favorite part of race day?
The pre-race gathering is a cherished time for me. Connecting with our athletes and teams before the start holds a special place in my heart. The excitement builds as each athlete is announced, and the unique character of each race truly highlights the spirit of ASA.
7. What is your best ASA story to date?
My true introduction to ASA came at the RunFest, my first official event. The runnel, created by ASA, is truly amazing! My youngest daughter, Harper, participated in the fun run to show her support. Meanwhile, my older daughter, Olivia, and my girlfriend, Katie, were there cheering me on every step of the way.
