ASA SPOTLIGHT
Join us each month as we interview and feature members of the ASA Community! This month, we’re shining the spotlight on Student Wingman and Brand Ambassador, Brian Baker.
1. Tell us more about yourself. What would you like readers to know?
I am 17 out of Frederick Maryland, and my family has been a part of ASA for 10+ years.
2. What drew you to ASA? When did you start?
I have run with ASA for 1 year now, but my family and I have always been apart of this community. My two sisters with Cerebellum Atrophy have been Athletes for a long time, I have been on the sidelines and waking up early for races for as long as I can remember.
3. What do you love most about ASA?
I love the fact that ASA has volunteer Wingmen to come out and support the main goal of ASA. There are so many different individuals and Athletes enjoying their time together during races, always pushing each other to get better.
4. Tell us more about the people you've connected with through ASA.
I have met many role models that I aspire to be like as become I become an adult. Their love for running along side these Athletes is truly inspiring.
5. What is your favorite part of a group run?
My favorite part of group run is the fun-loving atmosphere of the Wingmen and the Athletes.
6. What is your favorite part of race day?
Waking up early on a race day is always a challenge especially for a 17 year old boy like myself, but when I am getting ready with the Team and the Athletes are pumped up ready to go, there’s no better feeling.
7. What is your best ASA story to date?
My best ASA story has to be my 6-mile ASA race. The Bay Bridge Run was so exciting and I was pushed by the Wingmen by my side and my sister in the jogger smiling as we finished the race. I felt so happy that I’d pushed myself for my first 6-mile run and it was such a good feeling when my sister high-fived me at the end.
