ASA Spotlight: Conor Joyce

ASA Director of Programming

ASA SPOTLIGHT

Join us each month as we interview and feature members of the ASA Community! This month, we’re shining the spotlight on ASA’s Director of Programming, Conor Joyce!

1. Tell us more about yourself. What would you like readers to know?

I am so excited for the 2024 running season with ASA, and grateful to work with all of our volunteers and staff here. When I started running in 2010, I thought, “no more than this 5K”. Then there was a 10K, a 10-Miler, and on and on. I love sharing the joy of running with everyone, especially now with my family!

2. What drew you to ASA? When did you start?

I first met ASA at the Columbia Triathlon in 2013. Team Shane was competing and I instantly wanted to join them! It was amazing to see their teamwork and competitiveness, and I knew it would’ve been an amazing experience to have with my brothers. I joined as soon as I could, and started running with ASA’s Baltimore County Community at the NCR Trail.

3. What do you love most about ASA?

Running with everyone! Running can be such an individual sport, but I’ve always enjoyed it more with family and friends. That’s the greatest gift ASA provides me – making running a team sport and the memories and connections we all share.

4. Tell us more about the people you've connected with through ASA.

I’ve made so many lifelong friends with ASA, and always love rehashing stories while we’re running. The crazy runs always make for the best stories!

5. What is your favorite part of a group run?

Running with my friends! Group Runs are just such a great way to catch up, get a couple miles in, and burn off the day’s stress.

6. What is your favorite part of race day?

The start and finish are always fun, but the ‘hard miles’ are always the best. It can be mile 2 or mile 19 – just seeing everyone dig  deep and power through when it isn’t easy is always inspiring!

7. What is your best ASA story to date?

I’m fortunate enough to have so many good ones. Crashing through muddy puddles on the NCR Trail and the C & O Canal, flying down Charles St., bonking and completely missing the turn for the Finish Line… they’re all good times!

8. What are you most excited for as ASA's Director of Programming?

I’m looking forward to continuing our community growth and the ability to support ASA as the Director of Programming. I know we’ll keep improving and providing amazing running experiences and lifelong connections for Athletes of all abilities in the communities we serve.
