ASA Spotlight: tanyia davila

ASA Wingman Captain

WINGMAN SPOTLIGHT

Join us each month as we interview and feature members of the ASA Community! This month, we’re shining the spotlight on ASA Wingman Captain Tanyia Davila!

1. Tell us more about yourself. What would you like readers to know?

In the last 7 years, I have run 24 marathons, 5 ultras on 3 continents. I will run my 4th continent this fall. While I love to run, baking is my favorite pastime. I love-love-love dogs and currently have 2. Logic puzzles on paperback with a blue fine point ink pen is my “Calgon” moment. That last comment should hint to my age range. My favorite TV show right now is Abbot Elementary and The Incredible Dr. Pol. I absolutely love to laugh and can find a silver lining or humor in anything… I’m a Mom to 4 so that probably has something to do with it.

2. What drew you to ASA? When did you start?

I first saw ASA at the Annapolis 10 miler pre-pandemic and I was completely blown away. I worked in non-profit for 12 years and have a philanthropic heart. I knew immediately that ASA was something I wanted to be part of. My plan was to sign up in 2020 and well…  so I signed up in 2022 as a Wingman and had a blast! I’m a Captain for 2023 and I’m so excited to be a part of the newest kid on the block— the Northern Virginia (NoVA)/Fairfax Community!

3. What do you love most about ASA?

The fun! Everyone seems to float on a cloud of “happy”- rain or shine. I love the family feel and appreciate the care and great lengths ASA takes to serve their mission. The gear is pretty awesome too!

4. Tell us more about the people you've connected with through ASA.

Met some great ASA folks and have had fun team experiences. My first ASA race was with Team Devin for the St. Michael’s Half and it sealed the deal for me in staying with ASA. I’ve made some great connections through running and when ASA was ready to tackle a new state, my NoVA friends -Tasha, Joshua, Myles, Jaime, Misty, all trusted me enough to join right away. I have an extensive Christmas list this year.

5. What is your favorite part of a group run?

Encouraging others. Listening to others’ experiences or favorite things to do and places to go. Running IS therapy! Groups can be so fun and bounce a lot of positive energy around.

6. What is your favorite part of race day?

The cheers from the crowds  and our team style finish. Running has a high, but an ASA finish is a cherry on top!

7. What is your best ASA story to date?

The 2023 Parkway Classic with Team Corey is my recent most favorite. We had such a great time! It was the first time the area saw ASA and we were having a blast! I loved the badassery of our team as we made it look easy… happily trotting past others, all of us singing out loud and bringing the party to the run! Runners around us were amazed when they saw us pass. Some started singing with us, some ran up to say “Hi” to Corey or thanked us for the motivation, then together we glided through the finish smooth as butter in the ASA classic style finish. It was a fantastic first impression for ASA and a beautiful course.
