ASA SPOTLIGHT
Join us each month as we interview and feature members of the ASA Community! This month, we’re shining the spotlight on two new Wingmen in Anne Arundel County, Mother and Daughter, Janet Menton and Lindsay Tower!
1. Tell us more about yourself. What would you like readers to know?
We are both from Howard County. Lindsay and her husband, Kam, have lived in Annapolis for the last three years. They just had their first child, Darby, in January of 2024.
My husband, Lindsay’s Dad passed away suddenly in January. I then decided to move to Annapolis from Howard County to be closer to Lindsay and my new granddaughter.
We are enjoying living close to each other and really enjoy Annapolis life.
2. What drew you to ASA? When did you start?
We both were ASA Wingmen together in Howard County in 2017. We LOVED it! It was a great chance for us to meet up and share our love of running with the ASA Athletes.
With all the things going on in our lives this year, we thought it may be a good time to join back up with ASA. Rejoining the ASA community has brought us joy during this challenging time. It is great to be able to help bring a smile to the ASA Athletes’ faces and to have the chance to connect with this wonderful community.
When we first joined AA county we saw Corey was one of the Athletes. It was such a delight to see her again. We had done the Charles St. 12 miler with her back in 2017. She hadn’t changed a bit….happy, smiling and big hugs.
3. What do you love most about ASA?
We both love seeing the joy on the Athlete’s faces. They seem to enjoy the group runs as much as race day.
4. Tell us more about the people you've connected with through ASA.
Everyone has been so welcoming in AA County since we joined this Spring. The site coordinator will usually put us together with the same Athlete. We love getting a chance to catch up and enjoy striking up conversations with the other Wingmen, Captains, Athletes, and Athletes’ family members. .
5. What is your favorite part of a group run?
Without a doubt our favorite part of the group run is when the Athletes come to the finish line on the side of the stadium to the other teams cheering them on and then high five-ing. The amount of support and enthusiasm is so joyful, especially after a hot evening run.
6. What is your favorite part of race day?
The energy on race day is electric. We love how the crowd rallies behind the Athletes. The race participants and the spectators encourage the Athletes by name and that brings them so much joy.
7. What is your best ASA story to date?
We can’t really think of one particular story, but there is nothing like the energy of the team crossing the finish line and the smile on the Athlete’s face.
