ASA SPOTLIGHT: SEAN MCDONOUGH

ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT

Join us each month as we interview and feature members of the ASA Community! This month, we're shining the spotlight on ASA Athlete Sean McDonough!

Tell us a little more about yourself. What would you like readers to know?

Hi! I’m Sean, I am 27 years old, I live with two friends, I love sports and country music, pizza is my favorite food.

What drew you to ASA? When did you start?

I found out about ASA from my sister; she ran Cross Country and was doing the Jingle Bell run in Quiet Waters. I was there to cheer her on with my mom, and she told me she saw ASA running with some athletes. My mom signed me up and now I love it. It was funny because my friend Corey and I had signed up at almost the exact same time!

What do you love most about ASA?

Since I love sports; I love the competition! I love moving fast and being with my ASA friends.

Tell us more about the people you have met through ASA.

From my first coordinator, Jen, to my current coordinator, Erin, everyone has been so nice. I really like getting to know the people I run with and seeing them at other races.

I also love seeing the other athletes too — I have so many friends now, and I see some of them at other places and I really like that.

From Mom: Sean has developed some really great relationships with so many people, the people who are involved in ASA are there because their heart is in it, not only their legs.

What is your favorite part of a group run?

The laughing!

What is your favorite part of race day?

The going fast and sometimes I get to pass up the girls! We do tease each other, and that makes it fun.

What is your best ASA story to date?

Well I have so many!

I got to train for a race with Howie and Jeff B, and when we practiced we were laughing the whole time.

Another time, Natasha and I were racing and a lady did not move so she ended up on my lap!

I’ve also gotten to to do several marathons and even though it is hard, I really love that.
